Project 3: Pi-Hole

2024-04-22

I forgot to actually hit publish on sunday, but still this weekends project was mostly completed: The project this week was to get a pihole set up and put somewhere. I’ve got a spare raspberry pi 4 to use, but I want to put it somewhere nice, and have minimal wires. My main switch is just below some ikea pegboard, so I modelled up a little mount for the rpi - mounting it flat with the ethernet connection facing downwards. I have a PoE power adapter hat for the pi, so I’ll only need the one wire. I cut a 1m ethernet cable down to the 25cm or so that I needed, and hooked it all up. This is when I discovered a fatal flaw: Several months ago I swapped out my switch for a non-poe one (so I could use the PoE one for a work project). Regretting that now. So a new PoE switch is on order, and in the meantime I’ll just have to put up with an extra power cable.
